HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE Tablet

Indications:

1. Management of edema in patients with congestive heart failure, hepatic or renal disorders.

2. Treatment of hypertension, as a first line drug or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

Dosage:

Edema:

- Initial 25-200mg daily in one to three divided doses.

- Maintenance 25-100mg daily once every other day. A high daily dose up to 200mg may be required in adults with refractory edema.

Hypertension:

- Initial 50-100mg daily as a single dose in the morning or in two divided doses.

- Maintenance 25-100mg daily as a single dose in the morning.

Note: Geriatric patients may be more sensitiveto the effects of the usual adult dose.

1. Hydrochlorothiazide is contraindicated in patients with anuria and in those who are allergy to thiazide or sulfonamide derivatives.

2. It should be used with caution in patients with hepatic or renal disorders, disorders, diabetes mellitus, gout and in nursing women.

3. Periodical determination of serum electrolytes, blood glucose, blood urea nitrogen, and blood cholesterol during hydrochlorothiazide therapy are recommended.
