FUGAL-D-150 Capsule

This medication is an antifungal agent, prescribed for vaginal candidiasis, pneumonia, meningitis and fungal infections of the mouth, throat, liver, kidneys, heart, urinary tract and abdomen. It works by slowing the growth of fungi that cause infection.

Dosage and Administration

The recommended dose range is 50-400mg daily.

Take fluconazole at least 2 hours before PPIs (e.g. omeprazole).

Hypersensitivity.

If you are taking astemizole, cisapride, an ergot alkaloid (e.g. ergotamine), erythromycin, pimozide, quinidine, terfenadine, or voriconazole.

Adverse effects like headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, indigestion, dizziness and taste perversion. Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness; wheezing); burning, numbness, or tingling; dark urine; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; irregular heartbeat; loss of appetite; muscle pain, weakness, or cramping; pale stools; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe or persistent diarrhea. nausea, or vomiting; swelling of the hands; unusual bruising or bleeding; unusual or severe stomach pain; unusual tiredness; yellowing of the eyes or skin.

Fluconazole may cause harm to the fetus. Fluconazole is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use fluconazole, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

- Caution should be exercised in patients with history of cancer, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDs), irregular heartbeat, heart, kidney or liver disease, alcoholism, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

- It may cause dizziness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.

- Rarely it may cause liver damage; monitor liver function tests regularly while taking this medication.

- Avoid long-term use of this medication; otherwise it may cause secondary infection.

Fluconazole has been known to cause rare cases of serious liver damage, including death, mainly in patients with serious medical conditions. Liver damage caused by fluconazole has not been attributed to total daily dose, length of therapy, or sex or age of the patient. This type of liver damage may or may not be reversible when fluconazole is stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you experience dark urine, loss of appetite, pale stools, severe stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.

- Long-term or repeated use of fluconazole may cause a second infection

- Hormonal birth control (e.g. birth control pills) may not works as well while you are using fluconazole.

- Use fluconazole with caution in the elderly; they may be more sensitive to its effects.
