Corneal ulcers caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Bacterial conjunctivitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Dosage and administration

Corneal ulcers: On the first day, even during night time instill 2 drops into the affected eye every 15 minutes for the first 6 hours and then 2 drops every 30 minutes for the remainder of the 1st day. On the 2nd day, even during night time, instill 2 drops in the affected eye hourly. On the 3rd through the 14th day, place 2 drops in the affected eye every 4 hours. Treatment may be continued after 14 days if corneal re-epithelialization has not occurred.

Bacterial conjunctivitis: 1-2 drops instilled into the conjunctival sac every 2 hours while awake for 2 days and 1-2 drops every 4 hours while awake for the next 5 days.

In patient with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin class.

It is not known whether topically applied ciprofloxacin is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when this solution is administered to a nursing mother.

This drug is not for injection into the eye.

As with all antibacterial preparation, prolonged use of ciprofloxacin may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms, including fungi. Whenever clinical judgment dictates, the patient should be examined with the aid magnification, such as slit lamp biomicroscopy and, where appropriate, fluorescein staining. Ciprofloxacin should be discontinued at first appearance of skin rash or other sign of hypersensitivity reaction. There can be while crystalline precipitate on the superficial portion of the affected cornea, but this does not affect the clinical result or visual outcome. However, it should be administered carefully.
