ALDS Chewable tablet

ALDS is a broad spectrum anthelmintic for the treatment of

Enterobius vermicularis - Pinworm or threadworm

Trichuris trichiura - Whipworm

Ascaric lumbricoides - Large roundworm

Ancylostoma duodenale - Hookworm

Necator americanus - Hookworm

Taenia Spp. - Tapenworm

& Strongyloides stercoralis

In single or mixed infestations of any of the above.

Dosage and Administration

Usual dose in both adults and children over 2 years of age: 400mg as a single dose in classes of Enterobius verminularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ascaric lumbricoides, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus. In cases of Strongyloidiasis or Taeniasis ALDS 400mg as a single dose should be given for 3 consecutive days. If the patient is not cured on follow-up after 3 weeks, a second course of treatment is indicated. The tablets may be chewed, swallowed or crushed and mixed with food. No specific procedures such as fasting or purging are required.

A few cases of gastrointestinal discomfort and headache have been reported but no definite relationship with the drug has been shown.

Use in Pregnancy. Because Albendazole was found to be embryotoxic and teratogenic in the rat and rabbit, its use is contraindicated in pregnant women or those likely to be pregnant for women of child bearing age (15-40 years). ALDS should be administered within 7days of the start of normal menstruation.
