AFLACIN Eye drops

For the treatment of bacterial keratitis or bacterial corneal ulcers and bacterial conjunctivitis caused by ofloxacin-susceptible strains of Enterobacter cloacae, Haemophilus influenza, Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Dosage and Administration

For 1 year of age and older:

For Corneal Ulcers: 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 30 minutes while awake for the first 2 days. On the 3-7 day, instill 1-2 drops hourly while awake. On the 7-9 day through treatment completion, instill 1-2 drops 4 times daily.

For Bacterial Conjunctivitis: 1-2 drops instilled into the affected eye(s) every 2-4 hours for 2 days and 1-2 drops 4 times daily for the next 5 days.

In patients with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to ofloxacin, to other quinolones or to any other components in this preparation.

The most frequent drug reaction is transient ocular burning or discomfort. Other reactions include stinging, redness, itching, chemical conjunctivitis/keratitis, periocular/facial edema, foreign body sensation, photophobia, blurred vision, tearing, dryness and eye pain, Dizziness may rarely occur.

Specific drug interaction studies have not been conducted.

Safety for use should be considered during or after pregnancy and for those who are nursing an infant.

Prolonged use of ofloxacin may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi. If superinfection occurs, appropriate therapy should be initiated. To prevent overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, the use of this medicine should be used to the minimal duration required for the cure of the infection after confirmation of the susceptibility to the medication.

For pediatric use - infants up to 1 year of age: Safety and efficacy has not been established since studies on the relationship of age to the effects of ophthalmologic ofloxacin have not been conducted. Prolonged use should be avoided.
