TOT'HEMA Oral solution

For anaemia due to an iron deficiency.

Dosage

The ampoules are to be taken diluted in sweetened or unsweetened water or with any other non-alocoholic beverage.

Curative treatment:

In adults: 100-200mg of metal iron/day.

In infants starting from the age of 1 month and children: 5-10mg of metal iron/kg/day.

Preventive treatment:

Pregnant women: 50mg of metal iron/day for the last 2 trimesters of pregnancy (or starting from the 4th month).

Oral use.

This medicine should preferably be taken before meals, but the time of administration and sometimes the dosage should be adjusted based on digestive tolerance.

Duration of treatment:

The duration of treatment should be sufficient to correct the anemia and restore iron reserves, which are 600mg in adult women and 1,200mg in adult men.

Anemia due to iron deficiency: 3-6 months depending on the depletion of the reserves, possibly prolonged if the cause of the anemia is not controlled.

Checking for efficacy is not useful until after at least 3 months of treatment. It should concern the resolution of the anemia (Hb, VGM) and the restoration of iron stores (serum iron levels and siderophilline saturation).

The treatment duration should be complied with.

Anaemia that is not related to an iron deficiency.

- Digestive disorders; heartburn, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea.

- Common black coloration of stool.

- Brown or black stains on the teeth, which are reversible once treatment is stopped. They can also be reduced by brushing the teeth.

- Possible allergic reactions.

If you have been told by your doctor that you are intolerant to some sugars, contact him/her before taking this medicine.

(2) Precautions for use

- Drinking large amounts of tea inhibits iron absorption.

- Prevention of deficiencies in infants is based on the early introduction of a diverse diet.

- Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have fructose intolerance, glucose and galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrose/isomaltase deficiency (rare hereditary diseases).

- This medicine contains 3g of sucrose per ampoule. This should be taken into account in your daily ration if you are on a low-sugar diet or if you have diabetes.

- This medicine contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol) of less than 100mg per ampoule.
