FEROFORT is indicated as supplement to prevent iron deficiency anemia especially during pregnancy and lactation.

    Dosage

Adult dosage is 1 caplet daily, with or after meals.

  • ហាមប្រើ

Iron compounds are contraindicated in patients with primary hemochromatosis and transfusion siderosis.

Iron should not be given to patients receiving repeated blood transfusions since iron overload with possible secondary haemochromatosis can result.

Patients who are hypersensitive to drug substance.

  • ផលរំខាន

Oral administration of iron compounds may cause gastrointestinal disturbances, particularly nausea, epigastric pain, diarrhoea, or constipation.

Ascorbic acid is usually well tolerated. Large doses are reported to cause diarrhoea and other gastrointestinal disturbances, hyperoxaluria and the formation of renal calcium oxalate calculi.

The most frequent adverse reactions of zinc salts are gastrointestinal disturbances.

  • អន្តរប្រតិកម្ម

Iron can reduce clinical effect of fluoroquinolones, levodopa, methyldopa, penicillamines and tetracycline. Compounds containing calcium and magnesium, including antacids may impair the absorption of iron, while ascorbic acid and citric acid increase its absorption.

Ascorbic acid should not be given for the first month after starting desferioxamine treatment since it may worsen the iron toxicity.

High levels of iron supplement can decrease zinc absorption. Zinc supplements may reduce the absorption of copper, fluoroquinolones, iron, penicillamines and tetracycline.

  • ការប្រុងប្រយ័ត្នជាពិសេស

Haemolytic anemia without iron deficiency should not be treated with iron compounds since iron overload may occur. Iron overload may also occur in patients taking both oral and parenteral preparations, and in those with haemoglobinopathies or other refractory anemia erroneously diagnosed as iron deficiency anemia. Prolonged administration of therapeutic doses of iron should be avoided except in patients with continued bleeding, copious menstrual period, or repeated pregnancies.

Ascorbic acid should be given with care to patients with hyperoxaluria.

Prolonged administration of high doses of zinc supplements may lead to copper deficiency.

Iron can cause dark coloured faeces, which is not dangerous, and it can disappear if the consumption is stopped.

  • សកម្មភាពឱសថ

FEROFORT is an oral iron preparation with dietary supplements of B-complex vitamins, zinc and lysine.

Iron is an essential constituent of the body needed for haemoglobin formation and for the oxidative process of the living tissues. Iron is mainly absorbed in duodenum and jejunum. Following absorption the majority of iron is stored in the body as transferrin and hemosiderin; 30% is in the liver, 30% occurs in the bone marrow, and the rest is found in the spleen and muscles.

Ascorbic acid is essential for the synthesis of collagen and intercellular material. Ascorbic acid helps to absorb iron.

Dietary supplemental amounts of B complex vitamins are useful in relative nutritional deficiencies due to increased requirements, inadequate intake, or impaired absorption of nutrients.

B complex vitamins are absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, undergo enterohepatic circulation, mainly stored in the liver and eliminated in the urine. They are also distributed into breast milk.

Folic acid is reduced in the body to tetrahydrofolate, which is coenzyme for various metabolic process including synthesis of purine and pyrimidine nucleotides.

Thiamine HCl has essential roles in energy transformation and membrane and nerve conduction.

The active, phosphorylated forms of riboflavine are necessary in oxidative/reductive metabolic reactions as coenzymes.

Pyridoxine HCl is involved in metabolism of amino acid, carbohydrate and fat.

It is also required for the formation of haemoglobin.

Cyanocobalamin is essential for normal function in the metabolism of all cells and affects myelin formation.

Niacinamide is involved in electron transfer reactions in the respiratory chain and used in the cell’s energy production, biochemistry and gene regulation.

Zinc is an essential trace element which stimulates the enzymes’ activities.

Zinc is absorbed from GI tract and mainly excreted in the faeces.

Lysine is an essential amino acid.
