CTZ Tablet

INDICATION:

1. CTZ is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of perennial rhinitis, seasonal allergic rhinitis include sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal pruritus,

2. CTZ is indicated for patients with asthma, chronic idiopathic urticaria, conjunctivitis, ocular pruritus, tearing and redness of the eyes and other histamine-related cutaneous problems.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

1. In adults and children above 6 years of age: in most cases, the recommended initial dose is one 10 mg (1 tablet) once daily.

2. In patients affected by side effects, the dose may be taken as 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening.

Patients with a history of hypersensitiviy to any of component of this drug and severe renal impairment.

There have been occasional reports of mild and transient subjective side effects such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, dry mouth and gastro-intestinal discomfort.

Inform your doctor in case of any adverse reactions related to drug use.

Concurrent use of Cetirizine with alcohol or other CNS depressants should be avoided because additional reductions in alertness and additional impairment of CNS performance may occur.

Effects on the ability to drive or operate machinery: studies in healthy volunteers at 20 and 25 mg/day have not revealed effects on alertness or reaction time, however, patients are advised not to exceed the recommended dose if driving or operating machinery.

Use in pregnancy: in mice, rats and rabbits, cetirizine was not teratogenic at oral doses up to 96, 225 and 135mg/kg, respectively. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal studies are not always predictive of human response. CTZ should be used in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use in nursing mothers: studies in beagle dogs indicated that approximately 3% of the dose was excreted in milk. Cetirizine has been reported to be excreted in human milk, use of CTZ in nursing mothers is not recommended.

Cetirizine hydrochloride is a potent antihistamine with a low potential for drownsiness at pharmacologically active doses. It is a selective H1-antagonist with negligible effects on other receptors and is therefore, virtually free from anticholinergic and anti-serotonin effects.
