AUROCROME Eye drops

Treatment for allergic ocular disorders, like acute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis, hay fever conjunctivitis, giant papillary conjunctivitis and acute allergic conjunctivitis.

Dosage and Administration

Instill one or two drops topically into each eye 4 times daily (or) as directed by doctor.

Hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation.

Transient ocular stinging or burning may occur upon instillation of the drug and disappears after discontinuation of therapy.

As with all ophthalmic preparations containing Benzalkonium chloride, users of soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses should refrain from wearing lenses while under treatment with cromolyn ophthalmic solution. If required, corticosteroids may be used concomitantly with cromolyn ophthalmic solution.

Precautions

The potential benefits should be weighed before it is prescribed for pregnant patients and used with caution in nursing mothers. If irritation persists or increases, discontinue the use and consult a physician.

Warnings

Not for injection. Do not touch the nozzle tip to any surface, since this may contaminate the solution.

Precautions

Symptomatic response to therapy is usually evident within a few days, but longer treatment for up to 6 weeks is sometimes required. Once symptomatic improvement has been established, continue therapy for as long as needed to sustain improvement.

Sodium cromoglycate stabilizes mast cell membranes. Clinical and laboratory studies suggest that sodium cromoglycate is a specific inhibitor or reaginic antibody/antigen mechanisms since it has been shown to block the development of allergen-induced immediate type-1 reactions. Subsequently, mast cell degranulation and the local release of histamine and other chemical mediators of the immediate hypersensitivity reaction following antigen-antibody stimulation would be inhibited by sodium cromoglycate.
